Satsuma earthenware teapot signed Ryūzan, Japan, circa 1890-1920
Flattened circular teapot in Satsuma earthenware, late Meiji - early Taishō period, richly decorated with hand-painted chrysanthemums, daisies and floral motifs in polychrome enamels with gold highlights ; diamond-shaped geometric frieze on the shoulder and lid, gilded accents on the knob, spout and handle; red stamp 薩摩隆山 (Satsuma Ryūzan) below the base; fine, regular crackling typical of Satsuma glaze; dimensions: height 7.5 cm, weight 222 g; very good overall condition with slight wear to gilding, small chip at tip of spout, no visible cracks or restorations.
