Fragment from a Gothic church tower, Southern Netherlands (p - Lot 149

Fragment from a Gothic church tower, Southern Netherlands (probably), 13th-15th century Fragment of religious architecture in sandstone, probably from a church tower in the former Netherlands. Carved block in high relief, featuring a four-lobed composition around a projecting central core, with circular openings and recesses characteristic of Gothic ornamental vocabulary. The powerful modelling and openwork structure suggest a decorative element integrated into an elevation, possibly derived from a crown, pinnacle or openwork part of a belfry. The surface has a homogeneous weathering patina resulting from prolonged outdoor exposure. Remains of an old metal fastening system visible on one side. Dimensions: 34 × 34 × 25 cm (height). Weight: approx. 20 kg.
