Sandstone Neo-Renaissance mantel fragment, 19th century - Lot 127
Sandstone Neo-Renaissance mantel fragment, 19th century
Architectural element in carved sandstone, probably from a Neo-Renaissance mantel, 19th century. The front of the block features a high-relief mascaron depicting a face wearing a headband, surmounted by a frieze adorned with rosettes. The treatment of the face, with its pronounced, naturalistic features, is in keeping with historicist decorative vocabulary inspired by the Renaissance. The sculpture is integrated into a rectangular block forming the structural part of the mantle. Old patina and traces of use consistent with an interior installation. Dimensions : 29 × 24 × 13 cm. Weight: approx. 7 kg.
